1. Silicone vs Metal cages

The first choice you'll likely think to make when choosing a chastity cage is the material from which it is made.  This, as a generalisation, falls into two areas, steel cages and silicone cages.

For simplicity we're grouping other plastics and resin cages into this sub category, as they share similar properties in terms of how light they are.  Many people starting out will gravitate towards these cages as they are perceived as a little less hardcore than steel cages.  In the past the plastics were often prone to breaking or tearing if a softer silicone.  In recent years however, the quality of production in these materials has improved immensely both in comfort of body safe materials and overall strength.  It's opened this category up to more innovative designs such as the hugely popular Cobra cages or the V4 cages which as known to be extremely secure.

Steel cages have an allure that often can't be matched by other materials.  There is something more 'raw' about being locked into a steel cage since you know it's virtually indestructible.  The cold hard steel against your most delicate parts very much reinforces the 'jail' and control dynamic that you have entered into.  When you wear a steel cage you will undoubtedly feel its weight.  This often acts as a reminder as you go about your daily business, the heft of steel pulling at your penis when you make a perfectly normal movement, it's a beautiful thing. 

2. Short vs Long Cages

Short and long in essence boils down to whether you want a cage that you can get aroused in, even a little, or whether you want your cage to compress you so that you cannot grow.

There are benefits to both approaches and it really boils down to how you or your partner frames your chastity play.  Do you want chastity to represent complete control of your sexual arousal and prevent arousal or do you want to allow a little and the potential of slight stimulation whilst caged?  

Both methods are comfortable if not overdone.  When you wear a chastity cage which is circa the length of your placid penis or a little smaller, it'll hold it comfortably in place, sometimes compressing it down a little.  Only when you go much smaller does this become potentially uncomfortable.  By the same token, a cage longer than your flaccid penis will likely hold your penis neatly in place whilst allowing a little growth forwards in the cage and in such a situation you will quickly fill it.  When the cage is substantially bigger, you would encounter the issue of too much movement within it.

Another aspect of the choice of length is how it impacts your day to day wear.  You will likely want your cage to be unnoticeable under clothing so consider what you typically wear and how a cage would sit underneath that clothing.

3. Closed vs Open

Another consideration that will influence how you feel while wearing a cage in your day to day as well as when you play, is the degree to which your cage is 'open'.  So what do we mean by open?  Whilst it doesn't grant you freedom, it does relate to how much you'll be able to feel when caged.  Some cages feature steel bars with spacing, allowing your man meat to show to the world a little bit.  This permits a degree of breathability as well as sensation when touched... if you're lucky.  Others however feature a cage design which is fully enclosed meaning your penis isn't going to see the light of day unless your key holder allows it.
